Burberry plc
report and accounts
“Products are made in the factory, but brands are created in the mind.”
Walter Landor
Handbags and gladrags
This 140 page annual report was designed for Burberry, the iconic fashion brand, and features the black, tan and red pattern, known as the Burberry Check, as a design device on the spine. It happens that Burberry was making gabardine trenchcoats for decades before it started to line them with plaid check in the late 1910s. Registered as a trademark in 1921, the check — a beige background with black, white and red intersecting stripes – quickly became the most recognisable characteristic of the brand. The project was produced for Accrue Corporate Reporting, a Warwickshire-based design and marketing consultancy, and it won the Silver Category in the Printweek UK Print Awards.
